Shannen Doherty, rose to fame as Brenda in Beverly Hills 90210 before quitting after 4 series. [seasons] Several minor hit films later, including Heathers with Winona Ryder, [this was BEFORE 90210 started] she joined Charmed, a TV show about three sister witches, but has just announced she will not be signing up for a fourth series. [season] This weekend she presents a spooky Weird Weekend on cable channel Living, which includes unseen episodes of Charmed.
Are you the new Sabrina, Bewitched or Buffy?
None of them now I’ve left but, if the show was going to be compared to something, I’d prefer it to be Buffy.
Would you cast a spell on someone to make them fancy you?
Would you cast a spell on someone to make them fancy you?
Never. If people are going to like you then, if magic were true, you’d actually be making them do something they didn’t want to do.
Are you fed up with being asked about Beverly Hills 90210?
Are you fed up with being asked about Beverly Hills 90210?
Yes, totally...
Good, because I’m going to ask a couple. Do you miss it?
Good, because I’m going to ask a couple. Do you miss it?
Not at all but I do miss a couple of the people. I still see Jason Priestley. He came and surprised me on set a couple of weeks ago, he’s such a great guy. I also stay in touch with Luke Perry, Ian Ziering and I speak to Tori Spelling occasionally. As for the rest of them, I’m not too bothered whether I ever see them in my life.
Is there a hex on the show?
Is there a hex on the show?
You aside, the others don’t seem to work that muchI think it may be because most of them don’t want to. Luke’s on a show in the US and Jason... well, he can kind of work when he wants to.
How much time do they spend with hairdressers on the set?
How much time do they spend with hairdressers on the set?
Quite a bit but not as much as you’d think they would.
You have a reputation for being feisty ... Are you?
You have a reputation for being feisty ... Are you?
I was much more when I was younger. But I’m still opinionated and speak my mind. I have strong views. As a kid, even at four, I wasn’t allowed to watch cartoons. My parents would give us the newspaper to read instead so that fives you a better idea of how the real world is. The trouble is that, being a woman, if you offer a view and stand by it, then people consider you to be a bitch. If you’re a man then you’re a [slaps thigh] ‘good ol’ boy’.
Do you still go to the movies?
Do you still go to the movies?
Yes and no, I’m sitting on a fence a little. I don’t do as often as I could. I think the last film I saw was What Women Want. No, I went with my parents to see 15 Minutes with Robert De Niro and Ed Burns. I didn’t really enjoy it.
So what film did you last enjoy?
So what film did you last enjoy?
I love everything Julia Roberts does and I normally love De Niro. 15 Minutes wasn’t too bad until De Niro dies. After that it just went downhill, there was no reason to sit through it. I loved Any Given Sunday and Heat is one of my all time favourites.
Coming from Memphis, do you drink Jack Daniels?
Coming from Memphis, do you drink Jack Daniels?
No. I’m a wine drinker.
If you had to have a tattoo, what would it be?
If you had to have a tattoo, what would it be?
I have one actually. It’s an Irish Cross with the sun behind it. It’s to signify my heritage which is Irish Catholic.
What was the last CD you bought?
What was the last CD you bought?
Sade. But I’m really showing my age when it comes to music. I still love Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and U2, they’re my favourite artists. I don’t think there’s ever been a better band then Zeppelin. It’s music that makes you think. Oh, and I also love Eric Clapton. I named one of my dogs Layla.
What would be on your jukebox from hell? From hell?
What would be on your jukebox from hell? From hell?
Meaning songs I hate right? Anything that was too heavy metal.
What’s your ideal night out?A really nice dinner in my favourite restaurant in LA which is called Café Des Artistes.
Do you dream?
What’s your ideal night out?A really nice dinner in my favourite restaurant in LA which is called Café Des Artistes.
Do you dream?
All the time. I used to have really horrible nightmares where I’d swallowed the remote control to the TV. Don’t ask me where that one came from. It was really horrifying.
What’s in your icebox?
What’s in your icebox?
Frozen pizza rolls, chicken pot pie, ice cream – which I don’t normally eat but keep for my friends. And frozen garlic bread that I really love.
No healthy diet then? It’s convenience food.
What’s your exercise regime?
No healthy diet then? It’s convenience food.
What’s your exercise regime?
[Laughs] Is riding horses enough? Seriously, when I’m working ten months out of the year, the show keeps me fit. As I do the stunts it’s quite hard work. When we first started I had to do a programme of sit-ups and push-ups. The wire stuff is all about stomach control and it’s unbelievably difficult.
Do you sing in the shower?
Do you sing in the shower?
Sometimes. I try to make up my own songs – I just go off. I fancy I could write but I think I would probably suck. I’d be best sticking to acting.

Infuriated William Friedkin when she failed to turn up for the first day of shooting Jailbreakers (1994) (TV) in Hollywood. Shannon, as it turned out, had just returned from Italy, where she'd raised hell by turning up late for an interview on a television talk-show. Friedkin's first reaction was to call auditions and look at 12 other actresses to take the 90210-brat's part. But then he decided to stick with Doherty.
Family moved to Los Angeles was she was 7 years old.
In 1992, Shannen was a guest on "The Dennis Miller Show" (1992). She appeared on the fourth show which meant that host, Miller, was still in the process of getting used to the talk-show format. Early in the interview she rudely asked Miller if he was nervous and went on to point out his eyebrow which was twitching nervously. This made headlines the next day and before long, Miller was routinely making an effort to lampoon her on his talk show.

Has a tattoo of a cross on her right leg.
(2001) Released from her "Charmed" contract because of in-fighting between her and her co-star Alyssa Milano.
(12 June 2001) Sentenced to either 10 days in jail or 20 days of work-release duty, three years probation, and ordered to pay a $1500 fine for drunk-driving charges.

Shannen Maria Doherty was born April 12, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee. The daughter of Tom, a bank employee, and Rosa, the owner of a beauty parlor, went from Memphis Belle, to Hollywood bitch.

It turns out that Shannen has a lot to thank the late Michael Landon for. After her family moved to Los Angeles when Shannen was 7, she knew she wanted to pursue an acting career. Things moved quickly, and she made her debut at age 10, with a role on the series Father Murphy.
Michael Landon saw her on Father Murphy, and cast her as Jenny Wilder on the final season of Little House on the Prairie (she appeared on several made-for-TV Little House movies in the years that followed. Shannen was still doing the TV rounds with appearances on '80s shows such as Cagney & Lacey and Magnum P.I., and rejoined Michael Landon on an episode of Highway to Heaven.
By the time she was cast in the 1986 series Our House, Shannen had appeared on the big-screen in Night Shift and Girls Just Want To Have Fun (with pre-pubescent Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt). Then in 1989, a grown up Shannen co-starred with Winona Ryder in Heathers.
But it was in 1990 that Shannen's life would take a major turn, when a little show called Beverly Hills, 90210 hit TV screens. The popular teen drama invaded the houses of pimple-faced and angst-ridden teens every week, and teenage girls everywhere related to Brenda Walsh, Shannen Doherty's character.
After 4 years as the Minnesota-turned-Bev Hills twin, Shannen left the show, allegedly because of constant tardiness and fights with cast mates and producer Aaron Spelling.
A tabloid favorite, Shannen became the girl everyone loved to hate, as her love life played like a Beverly Hills, 90210 episode and her personal life a Jerry Springer episode. She was engaged and separated to Dean Factor by 1991; engaged and separated to Chris Foufas by 1992; and married Ashley Hamilton (son of the always tanned George Hamilton) 2 weeks after meeting him, and they divorced after less than a year.
Shannen had a brief courtship with actor Judd Nelson after they met on the set of the 1994 film Blindfold, and in true Hollywood fashion, started dating director Rob Weiss, broke up with him, got engaged, and broke up with him again.
Shannen appeared partially nude in Play.boy in 1993 and 1994; got into an actual physical fight with a woman in a bar; and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on December 28, 2000, to which she pleaded innocent in March 2001.
While her personal life has been making tabloid headlines, her professional career went more the way of a slew of Made-for-TV movies, including: Forever Young, Obsessed, Freeze Frame, Jailbreakers, A Burning Passion: The Margaret Mitchell Story, and Sleeping With the Devil. She also starred in the cult-favorite Mallrats, and co-starred with Christina Applegate in Nowhere.
Shannen's TV star potential proved that it was going anywhere but nowhere, when she was cast in 1998 as Prue Halliwell in the WB's successful Charmed (working with Aaron Spelling once again). As part of a sexy sisterly trio of witches, along with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs, Shannen proved that life after Beverly Hills, 90210 wasn't all that bad. On May 14, 2001, Spelling Televison confirmed Shannen's departure from the show, allegedly due to on-set cattiness between her and Alyssa Milano.
